Dunmore vs Bishop McDevitt Football Rivalry

On Nov. 15, 2019, at Lehighton Area Stadium, Bishop McDevitt won the PIAA Class 2A first round, 28-13. The Lancers came in as District 12 champion. Dylan Aquino recovered the opening-kickoff fumble, and four false starts forced a punt. Dunmore then fumbled at the Lancers' 45. Lonnie Rice, a University of Buffalo recruit, threw 44 yards to Corey Wright-Downing for a touchdown with 6:47 left in the first quarter. Another fumble set up Rice's 22-yard touchdown pass to Ty Tindal. David Reilly blocked the extra point, with 8:39 left in the half. Cristian Buckley ran 36 yards for a touchdown, then intercepted Rice after Nick Stanco's rush, at the Dunmore 46. Peyton Badyrka missed two 39-yard field goals in the half. The first hit the left upright. The second hooked wide left. A 14-play, 67-yard drive in the third quarter took 7:16. On fourth-and-2, Rayshaun Dawkins scored from the 10, Badyrka converted, and Dunmore led 13-12. It was the Bucks' only lead. McHale said they never wavered, battled back from two scores down, and took the lead. Mike Watkins praised the system. Rice scored on a 6-yard dive, Akire Lillie ran in the two-point conversion, and Bishop McDevitt led 20-13 with 3:02 left in the third. Dom Temperino caught a tight-end screen and gained 36 yards to the McDevitt 18. Dawkins moved the ball to the 12, a facemask put it on the 3, and two false starts followed. Tyrone Fowler, a Division I recruit, dropped Buckley for a 3-yard loss. The fourth-down pass was incomplete in the end zone. Rice closed an 87-yard march with a 25-yard touchdown with 5:04 left. He finished with 155 rushing yards and two rushing scores on 13 carries. A Dec. 4 account added 127 passing yards and two passing touchdowns for Rice, 104 yards on 17 carries for Buckley, and 85 yards on 14 carries for Dawkins, and a two-point run after that last touchdown.

On Nov. 6, 2020, at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium, Bishop McDevitt won the PIAA Class 2A first round, 47-7. The District 12 champion led 33-0 at halftime. Nick Santo threw four touchdown passes. Three went to Emmanuel Sia, and one was an 83-yard drag to Corey Wright-Downing. Joachim McElroy returned the opening kickoff to his 49. Two plays later Santo hit Sia for 40 yards, 34 seconds into the game. Dunmore went three-and-out. Santo then found Sia for 12 yards on third-and-8, the end of a six-play, 50-yard drive, and it was 13-0. One play into the second quarter the lead was 27-0. None of the first four Lancer drives started behind their own 49. Two started in Dunmore territory. Ty Tindal, a sophomore, returned a punt 41 yards for a touchdown. Bishop McDevitt was 3-1 at the half.
