Yannone's night, and a 42-0 opener

Dunmore scored on the ground, through the air, and on the kickoff, and the defense took the ball five times.

Wyoming Area came in as a Class 3A team people thought could push for a district title. Dunmore treated the opener like a measuring stick and won it, 42-0, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Weston Yannone rotated between tailback and receiver and finished with 118 yards receiving, 62 rushing, and three touchdowns. Josef Wolff scored on a 29-yard inside handoff. After a Warrior fumble, Yannone ran one in from 19 yards. Brady McCormick then hit him in stride for a 50-yard score, and it was 28-0 at the half. The Bucks had three scores in a seven-minute stretch of the second quarter.

Jacob Costanzo took the second-half kickoff at the 10 and brought it back 90 yards. That was the mercy. The offense had five scores, three on the ground and two in the air, and the kickoff return made six. The defense forced five turnovers. Wyoming Area coach Randy Spencer credited a senior-heavy Dunmore team for the physicality and called the night a hard lesson for a young Warrior roster.

The Bucks are 1-0. Lackawanna Trail is Friday.
