Peyton Badyrka

Kicker · 2018-2020 · LSU

On Sept. 27, 2019, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Old Forge, Dunmore's junior kicker Peyton Badyrka made a 21-yard field goal with 4.9 seconds left. Dunmore won 13-12. The drive covered 61 yards in 11 plays, starting at Dunmore's 35. Steve Borgia hit tight end Dom Temperino twice. The second catch was good for 9 yards to the Old Forge 11 with under 20 seconds left, and Karl Kincel ran 7 yards off right tackle to center the ball. It was Badyrka's second kick of the night and his first game-winner. Dunmore was 4-2 and ranked No. 8. Old Forge was 4-1, ranked No. 4, and took its first loss.

Dunmore had seven false starts and 83 penalty yards. Charles Valvano jarred the ball loose on a bad punt snap, and Keiran Reyes returned it to the Old Forge 10 with 3 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter. The Bucks settled for a 3-0 lead on Badyrka's first kick. Late in the third quarter Dante Lucarelli hit Tyler Carey, left wide open, on a 26-yard pass on third-and-goal, and Old Forge led 6-3 with 4:36 left. Carey blocked Badyrka's 24-yard attempt with 9:31 left and kept the lead at 6-3. Rayshaun Dawkins scored from 28 yards with 6:42 left, and Dunmore led 10-6. Carey then blocked Dom Temperino's punt, recovered it in the end zone, and put Old Forge ahead with 2:30 left. Kevin McHale credited poise and conditioning. Badyrka said to ignore the blocked kick and think about the next one going in. Borgia told the huddle to keep short memories. Old Forge coach Michael Schuback praised Temperino and Borgia and said Dunmore outplayed his team.

After two All-Region seasons as Dunmore's kicker, Badyrka enrolled at LSU as a walk-on in the Southeastern Conference. He had come out as a freshman after playing soccer and basketball. In 2018 he made 9 of 10 extra points and a 33-yard field goal in the PIAA Class 2A playoffs against West Catholic. As a junior he made 44 of 45 extra points and five field goals, from 38 yards and from 36, and made All-Region. In the shortened 2020 season he made 13 extra points, three field goals including a 42-yarder, and three touchbacks, made All-Region again, and finished with 66 extra points and nine field goals in his career. He applied to Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami, and Florida State. The June 4, 2021 account says he and McHale reached out to former Dunmore player Joe Marciano, and Badyrka said he talked with LSU special teams coordinator Greg McMahon about walking on. He was 18. The same account says he was to represent Dunmore in the Dream Game on July 21. On Dec. 7, 2021, as an LSU freshman walk-on from Dunmore, he entered the transfer portal.
