Josh Sawka

Fullback and linebacker · 2012-2013 · Lycoming

On Sept. 7, 2013, at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium, Dunmore fullback Josh Sawka scored the first touchdown on a 33-yard run. Dunmore won 48-7 over GAR. Daiqwon Buckley's first three carries had gained 4 yards combined. Quick hitters to Sawka opened the game, and Buckley then carried 17 times for 271 yards and four touchdowns. Buckley went over 4,000 career rushing yards on a 35-yard score with 8:06 left in the second quarter, and Dunmore led 21-7. Buckley said the fullback got stuffed, then the quick hitters took the defense off him.

On Nov. 23, 2012, at John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium, Dunmore beat Southern Columbia 35-29 in the PIAA Class A first round. Matt O'Connor forced a fumble on the kickoff. Sawka recovered it, and two plays later Austin Seamon scored on a leaping dive. Mike Kolcharno caught the two-point conversion, and Dunmore led 28-14. A later account of that defense lists Sawka among the linebackers, with Daiqwon Buckley, Sal Marchese, and Mike Rogan. Southern Columbia finished with 197 rushing yards.

The Lycoming roster lists him as a senior linebacker in 2017, No. 48, 6-foot-0 and 217 pounds, from Dunmore. He played in five games that fall and made two tackles. In 2016 he played in five games, with an assisted tackle for loss against Delaware Valley, and he made the MAC Academic Honor Roll. In 2015 he played in one game and made three tackles against Misericordia. In 2014 he was on the junior varsity. The same bio says that at Dunmore he was second-team all-conference, had 140 tackles as a senior, played in the Dream Game, and helped the Bucks to three league championships and a district championship, and that the 2012 team finished as state runners-up.
