Colin Holmes
Running back · Through 2016
As a freshman in 2013, Holmes recovered a loose ball on the opening kickoff of the 21-16 win over Old Forge. As a sophomore in 2014 he was 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds. The all-state story has that season at 1,698 yards, 24 rushing touchdowns, and 26 touchdowns in all. The career line in that story is 2,147 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns. His brother Morgan was a Class AA first-team all-state defensive back in 2009.
In the 21-7 win over Lake-Lehman that sent Dunmore to the District 2 Class AA championship game, he blocked a 40-yard field goal and returned it 61 yards. He also scored on two 1-yard runs, finished with 180 yards, and went over 1,000 yards in the second quarter. The Pennsylvania Football Writers put him on the Class AA all-state team.
The Aug. 20, 2016 preview said he entered his senior season with 2,912 yards and 45 touchdowns, sharing the starter's role. It said he averaged 5 yards a carry and scored 11 rushing touchdowns the season before. On Aug. 26, 2016, at Valor Field at Memorial Stadium, he lost two fumbles in the first quarter, then ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-17 win over West Scranton. A 71-yard kickoff return set up his 1-yard score. He scored the go-ahead touchdown with 5:30 left and broke up a fourth-down pass with 2:33 left. In the loss to Ligonier Valley he returned from a knee injury that had cost him the end of the regular season and the first three playoff games. He ran for 56 yards and two touchdowns. That story closed his career at 3,772 rushing yards and 57 rushing touchdowns, with 638 yards and eight touchdowns in seven state-playoff games. No college stop is in these stories.
