On Oct. 24, 2008, at Dunmore, Dunmore quarterback Miller Holmes threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brian Copeland on the play after J.J. Dempsey recovered a fumble. Dunmore won 35-9 over Hanover Area. The score came in a 28-second stretch that also included Michael Perry's 83-yard kickoff return, and it was 21-3 after the first quarter.
On Oct. 23, 2009, at Dunmore, Dave Olivetti threw for 67 yards, 38 of them to Copeland, on the drive that ended with Michael Perry's third touchdown. Dunmore beat Valley View 35-14 and wrapped up its first Lackawanna Football Conference Division II title since 1999.
Copeland was a senior tight end that fall, listed at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds in the Feb. 2, 2010 signing story. He caught 10 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the run to a third straight District 2 Class AA title. He made the Times-Tribune All-Region team and the Lackawanna Football Conference Division II coaches' first team. He accepted a grant-in-aid to play tight end at Bucknell for Joe Susan.
He played in the 2010 Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game, June 18 at Mansion Park in Altoona. The June 5 story called him the Hookey Reap runner-up among offensive linemen and a two-year starter. Bucknell's June 25 recruiting release listed him as a freshman tight end from Dunmore, 6-3 and 226, in Joe Susan's first class. The release says he lettered three years in football at Dunmore, was all-scholastic and all-region as a senior, and was on the team that reached a state championship game as a sophomore.
